Generations Together Project Gateshead has seen many good times come and go over the past year or so! Sadly though this project, like all projects must, is finally drawing to a close.

All four strands of the project have had their highlights and have overcome problems their share of problems at some point. Now is the time to reflect on all of the good work that the project has achieved!

Have you been part of the Generations Together Gateshead project? Tell us your highlights! Write down your best bits, worst bits, and feel free to tell us what your Generations Together experience has been like!

But, as March ends, April begins. From the project many more new paths have been created and are now being prepared to be followed. New friendships have been forged which will bloom and mature. The intergenerational gap has been challenge and won’t look quite so large now for a proportion of the population of Gateshead! Groups and organisations that have been inspired by the project are now moving on to different projects together with new goals and contacts formed.

No matter what part of the project you were involved in, please tell us what you’re planning on doing next! Where are you going? What are you doing? Has the project inspired you to further close the intergenerational gap, or has it sparked some other idea or project you wish to pursue?

Please leave a comment below and help to give Generations Together Gateshead the best send off it could possibly deserve!

Hi everyone,

Tomorrow (Tuesday 21 February) is going to be a big day for Soul Soup with lots of opportunities for people to get involved and really see Soul Soup in action!

The day will start with a special commemeration event at Gateshead Old Town Hall to invite back the groups that took part in the Inter-Gen-Jam project! This project saw a group of local young carers meet with a group of local older carers to learning drumming, practice their singing skills, and showcase their talents at the amazing Sage Gateshead.

Throughout the project, Soul Soup administrator Jessica Johnson had been snapping away with a camera and then recorded the entire event on stage. At 10:30am a music video created from the footage will be shown at Gateshead Old Town Hall. If you missed the performance or just want to relive the experience again why not come along and see what’s happening?

Not much after that, Soul Soup leaders and participants will be taking to the air on BBC Radio Newcastle at 11:30am. Tonight on BBC 2 will be the programme Teenage to Oldage, which will be the main point of discussion. If you’re just coming to read about Soul Soup now or want to hear if someone you know has been involved in Soul Soup, then feel free to tune in and find out more!

Finally to end the day, a Soul Soup café event will be held at the Shipley Arts Gallery from 6pm-8pm, marking the opening of a new Soul Soup exhibition there! Have a look at the bowls that have been created with memories of old and young people around Gateshead, and also enjoy a nice refreshing bowl of soup to wind down the day.

From everyone at Soul Soup we hope you’ve had a good Monday and take the chance to join us for an equally good – if not better- Tuesday!

Tommorow marks the official opening of the newly refurbished Gateshead Library and The Gallery – a community arts space open for the public to enjoy.

Soul Soup is going to be launching tonight one of it’s 13 projects as an exhibition in the space called Grow. Grow saw local, young, artists from The Shed arts space matched up with older local artists to creative collaborative art pieces to go in the space. A common theme has emerged from all of the artists as being a collective maritime theme.

Also going up in the library, on the floor above The Gallery, will be images and descriptions of each Soul Soup project so far. If you’ve been involved in a Soul Soup project or not – go and have a look at what else the projec has been up to!

If you’ve looked at the exhibition or been involved in the project, come back and leave a response below. We’d love to here from you and about your Soul Soup experience and thoughts!

GVOC (Gateshead Voluntary Organisations Council) encourages people of all ages to volunteer, and gave – and still gives - the Generations Together Project Recruitment opportunities and volunteers.

To recognise their role as playing a part in the Generations Together project, look out for the new GVOC page that will be appearing on the main drop-down menu along with the other four main strands.

They’ve held a small presence already on contact page of this website already, however they need to be properly recognised as a project partner.

This Soul Soup is based around traditional Persian Winter Solstice traditions. The two groups of the project (Fountains Court View and a group of Young Mums) have been invited to bring along their own families to share in the event.

The groups will eat Persian soup and bread that they’ve learnt to make, and will also be working with the theatre company Zendeh. Pictures and a bigger description about the event will be provided in the New Year.

From eveyone here, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone,

This is just an update to let you know about two new projects that Technology Exchange will be launching in the new year, and also to give you two new things to look out for coming soon to the Technology Exchange section of this website!

My Generation is a drop in event for the whole community, which will encapsulate many aspects of our lives; from the present day to past era’s. There will be dancers, actors, poetry recitals and stalls, to include: Beamish Museum, Gateshead Health Trainers, Computer/Mobile Phone demonstrations, Beauty Treatments, British Forces etc. The Mayor will be coming along to open the event, and Councillor Mole (Older and Younger Persons Champion) will also be there. The event is to be at: St Josephs Hall (Opposite Gateshead Interchange Metro/Bus Station) on Saturday 22nd January 2011, from 1100 to 1500. The event is free, but donations will be greatly accepted.

I will also be visiting older people’s centres and community groups with a ‘Bingo’ event in the new year, and will also be starting with the ‘When I was Younger’ memory boxes, within the community. Any groups interested – please let me know.

Two more things to look out for coming soon to the Technology Exchange section of the website:

1) A new item to the website, we hope to soon upload a video explaining exactly what Technology Exchange is and does.

2) A newly created Technology Exchange project logo!

From everyone working with Technology Exchagne we hope you have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year!
