Grow

Who took part?

Young artists from The Shed creative workspace in Gateshead, artists aged over 50 based in Gateshead and the North East Maritime Trust.

Why?

  • To explore the idea of an “artists” community within Gateshead rather than a geographical community.
  • To encourage meaningful interaction between artists via a co-mentoring process, allowing them to learn from each other, share good practice, develop their networks and opportunities and discuss their own arts practice.
  • Through the co-mentoring process and volunteering time the artist involved in “Grow” created work celebrated in the first exhibition at “The Gallery” housed in Gateshead’s newly refurbished Central Library.

What took place?

The co-mentoring process took place over a series of weeks with the following artists and organisations volunteering their time throughout to create works for the “Grow” exhibition:

Laura Hebron and Helena Seget

Liam Murray and Mark Todman

Lisa Gara and Clare Satow

Kate Eccles, Jen McHugh and the North East Maritime Trust

All the works created through these partnerships can be seen featured in the photo gallery.
